Extension of the scope of certification
The scope of an issued certificate (activities listed on the certificate) may be extended by the certification body, based on the client’s application.
Subsequently, the management of the certification body reviews the application with respect to feasibility, i.e., whether the extension area is included in the application within the scope of accreditation and whether there are resources needed to implement this extension.
Extension may be performed within a standard compliance audit or it may be performed by conducting an “extraordinary” compliance audit, in which case the area being extended must be examined with regard to all the requirements of the certification standard in question.
Based on the findings of the audit and the positive decision of the management of the certification body, a new certificate including the extended scope is issued.
